Brentwood U13s
10 – 12 Westcliff U13s
Brentwood got their League Season underway on Sunday with a below
par performance against Westcliff RFC. Despite Brentwood exerting
some concerted early pressure, Westcliff scored a good breakaway
try albeit assisted by some poor tackling. The Brentwood pack
were playing reasonably well without demonstrating the same level
of aggression as previous weeks and poor presentation of the ball
combined with excellent work from the Westcliff back row resulted
in far too many turnovers.
Brentwood responded with a try just before half time from inside
centre Henry Bird but a tough conversion was missed and the game
tied at 5-5. Brentwood opened the scoring in the second half with
Jack Cowie touching down but Westcliff deservedly responded and
also converted to take a 12-10 lead.
To their credit, the Brentwood boys looked to respond and were
beginning to demonstrate some continuity at last and gaining good
field position. However, Brentwood were unable to convert this
into the much needed points with Westcliff defending well and
with the boys distracted, Westcliff held on to secure the 2pt
victory.
Brentwood will need to ensure that they increase their intensity
and cut out the basic errors that crept into their game as this
was a disappointing performance given their early season form.
The league promises to be very competitive and the boys need to
ensure they are fully focussed during training and matches to
eliminate the errors and improve their decision making.
