Brentwood Stags 10 - 26 Eton Manor

A Brentwood side including a number of boys new to club rugby this season took to the the field on a bright but windy afternoon to face Eton Manor at King Georges Playing Fields

Both teams seemed fairly evenly matched for most of the match with Brentwood conceding 2 tries in the 1st quarter due to basic errors in decision making, the 1st being scored as Brentwood tried to kick their way out of trouble with the kick being charged down and in the ensuing confusion the EM boys came away with a deserved score. The 2nd try being a (converted) penalty try awarded to EM for Brentwood holding onto a player not in possession of the ball!

A period of good play from the Brentwood pack and a strong drive enabled Billy Summerfield to take the ball from the back of a maul in the 2nd quarter to touch down over the EM line which gave the boys a deserved try.

Weak defence and some poor tackling from the Brentwood backs led to 2 further converted tries for EM, one being a very strong breakaway run from just outside their own 22.

Brentwood's 2nd try came from a familiar position just on the EM, line again after another good period of forwards play with Joe Knapp picking the ball up from a good ruck to run through the EM defence and score in the 4th quarter.

Overall a good performance from the Brentwood pack but despite some good ball presentation from Jack Balcombe at Scrum Half ,the backs failed to make any ground or penetrate the EM defensive line due to very lateral running and poor decision making.

A positive performance from a mixed side, but lots to work on!
